The Hottie Stop interviews Efrat Dor, star of The Zookeeper's Wife

03.20.2017by: Eric Walkuski

Efrat Dor may not be a familiar name for most people living outside of Israel, but that could very well change soon. Well-known in her homeland for her roles in television shows Asfur and Downtown Precinct, Efrat will soon be seen playing Jessica Chastain's best friend in THE ZOOKEEPER'S WIFE, an adaptation of the acclaimed Diane Ackerman book. It's a powerful film, to be sure, and Efrat absolutely leaves an impression. It's a sure bet we'll be seeing much more of her.

Efrat is based in Israel, but thankfully took the time to talk about her part in THE ZOOKEEPER'S WIFE, working with Jessica Chastain, her passion for acting and much more!

What can you tell me about your role in Zookeeper's Wife?

I play Magda Gross, a sculptor from Poland. She received a gold medal at the International Art Exhibition in Paris in 1937 for her Bison and Gadfly. She often used the animals at the Warsaw Zoo as her models, and during World War Two, she hid for several years at the house at the Zoo, a safe haven created by Jan and Antonia Zabinski. In the film, she is Antoninaís, Jessica Chastain's, best friend

How intense was it to make the film, given the subject matter?

When I first read the script I cried. Auditioning for Nikki [Caro], I cried, and on set, I cried. The subject matter is very close to me, being Jewish but I also have a 94-year-old Polish grandmother who survived the holocaust but lost her mother, father and brother who were murdered by the Germans.
Niki said on set that she could feel the deep connection between the Jewish actors and the characters. I agree.

What can you tell me about working with Jessica Chastain

Most of my scenes are with Jessica, and so I did have the opportunity to work with her. I can definitely say I used every second on set to learn as much as I could, and Jessica is just such a pro! She is very geeky, as am I, and so Iím texting her a lot. She is very serious about her craft and gives everything she has in every scene. She is pleasant to work with and nice to everyone. She really gives a lot of respect to her partners and such a down-to-earth and talented actress.

How long have you been acting? Was there ever another career path that you considered exploring?

Ever since I can remember, one thing was absolutely clear to me, acting. As the years go by, I change, evolve, go through different stages in life, however one thing remains the same. Acting, creating, telling a story.
I really feel it is my way of giving back to the world. I think stories give people hope, courage, and the feeling they are not alone. I love it.

Are you based in the U.S. or Israel? If the latter, have you considered moving to the U.S. for your career?

I am based in Israel and work there a lot but also travel plenty to the US and feel at home there as well. I believe that when the time is right, and I will hopefully have a lot of work in the US, I will definitely consider moving.

Who are some actors/directors you'd love to work with?

Wow, so many great directors and actors... I really feel I can learn from everyone, but some of my favorite directors I would love to work with are Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, Ridley Scott, Woody Allen, Clint Eastwood, James Cameron, Oliver Stone, Tom Ford, Sofia Coppola, Kathryn Bigelow, Steve McQueen, The Coen Brothers and David Fincher. I would be honored.

What is a genre of movie that you haven't been a part of yet that you want to?

I would absolutely love to take part in an action feature. I am a very sporty and energized kind of person. I used to dance and also took kung fu for a while. I would really love to be in an action packed movie!

What do you have coming up next?

I wish I could tell you all, but you will just have to wait and see.

Who is your all-time celebrity crush?

Well, I guess I'm pretty classic. Brad Pitt. Need I say more?
