Money for Matilda

Terry Gilliam recently gave an interview, talking about his collaboration with the late Heath Ledger on the movie THE IMAGINARIUM OF DR. PARNASSUS. In order to be able to use the footage he had of Ledge and salvage the movie, the director hired on three additional actors (Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrel) to play Heath's character in different transitional phases throughout the carnival affair.

According to Gilliam, Depp, Law and Farrel are all heroic. "This doesn’t happen very often . . . where there’s a tragedy like this, and very famous, very successful actors suddenly say, “Okay, we’ll do whatever it takes to help.” They came; they did the work; they allowed the movie to be finished; they didn’t take money–the money goes to Heath’s daughter. That’s extraordinary!" Gilliam said in an interview.

I do think it's exceptional of the men to come forth and do the work out of respect for a fine fellow thespian. I also think donating the money to Matilda, Heath's 3 year old daughter with actress Michelle Williams is upstanding as well, considering that Ledger didn't get a chance to revise his will before his death, which left all of his fortune (and you know he's going to rake in those "dead celebrity" millions for years) to his father, a man the rest of the Ledger family ostracized and sued in court after "mismanaging" their family trust.
