Hot or Not: Elodie Yung

03.29.2016by: Cherry Liquor

I didn't make it out to see BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE this weekend, partly because I didn't have the time and partly because even before I saw the trailers, I didn't have much interest in the movie to start with. I understand that most people were decidedly unsatisfied with it (including its star, Ben Affleck) aside from last week's featured babe, Gal Gadot, as Wonder Woman. If you really have to wonder why I feature certain women who are in general given an automatic "Hot" pass, the proof is in the saturated pudding - despite shitty reviews, the movie made bank. That's because it was impossible to avoid and if I hadn't used Gadot last week, it would have been even more implausible for me to feature her next year when she headlines her own superheroine movie. So this week, I have a lesser known face from a another ratings phenom.

Elodie Yung

Despite the fact that I've watched DISTRICT 13: ULTIMATUM, THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO (Fincher version) and GI JOE: RETALIATION, I do not remember Elodie Yung from any of those. Now, keep in mind that I often, well, unwind before opting to view shitty action movies or other films that might require my harsher judgment to be blurred around the edges. I still don't remember this French lady in any of those things. Which should speak volumes, although I'm not certain what exactly is being said.

Having just finished up the second season of "Daredevil," I can say this: I absolutely HATED Yung's Elektra. I got into a tiff with a friend who tried to defend her performance with the main angle being that she's at least better than Garner's version. I argue that you can't compare the two. Garner's original appearance in DAREDEVIL was riddled with inconsistencies to the source material, not to mention the fact that Garner bulked up with muscle for the role and was undeniably at the top of her hottie game back then. Still, Yung's Elektra comes off screechy, needy, and obnoxious instead of rogueishly charming, like I have always envisioned the character when I've read the books. For every ounce that Bernthal was the perfect Punisher (finally! We have a winner!!), Elodie was cringingly wrong as Elektra.

I have a good feeling that Elodie's career will continue on and thrive, although I can't say that I'll tune into her series, should they give her one of her own. She has a decent body, if too reedy and thin. Her exotic looks are compelling and draw you in, although for as much as one can assume an accent like hers is seductive, I personally find it grating. Pretty, definitely. Hot? Needs more simmer time to mature and develop deeper character inflection.

What do you think of Elodie Yung?
